Don't forget to pop along to St John the Baptist, Piddington this weekend and marvel at the wonderful Christmas Trees. If that is not enough to get you into the Christmas spirit, you can pop over to St John the Baptist Quinton Saturday evening to enjoy Mistletoe, Wine and Carols and if that wasn't enough you can come back to Piddington Sunday night for the Wassail. Let's hope that leaves you with enough energy to do your Christmas shopping!

On the 21st of June we held a service at St John the Baptist, Piddington, to welcome our Living Brook Benefice Team! Julie Austin and Julia Javes of Quinton along with Steve Watson of Piddington, received certificates and gifts to mark the completion of their training in Children's work, Home groups and Worship. They were welcomed by Revd Beverley, Heather Crudgington (our layreader) and our new curate, Deborah Marsh. After the celebratory service we enjoyed a round of cakes and coffee, before diaries were whipped out to arrange the first meeting! The congregations of all the benefice churches welcome our new leaders...

The Living Brooke Youth Fellowship held a karaoke night in aid of Butonge primary school. LBYF planned the evening, and they helped run the event by either selling tickets on the door, or helping out in the kitchen, or singing and dancing with children they had invited. We focused our attention on two of the primary schools in our benefice, we invited the children to come down have a sing and a dance to help us raise money for Butonge.   This event was really successful and we raised over £130 for Butonge. LBYF are so thankful of all those who attended the karaoke night and those who helped to organise it and provide the location, food, and entertainment especially we’d like to thank Julie Austin, Steve and Gill Watson, for the preparations of the event, Emma Dil for helping with promoting the event through forum, and of course Reverend Beverley for her support in all things to do with the event. St John the Baptist Quinton Our service on Sunday January 18th 2015 will be led by laity and is a reading of the Order for Morning Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer,1662, with lessons read from the Authorized Version (The King James Bible.) This is a brief service with 2 hymns and no sermon. The Book of Common Prayer is licensed for use throughout the Church of England, but its use is dwindling. We wish to keep it alive. You will be most welcome if you wish to come to this special service. There is lots of participation, involving reading, so bring your glasses. Coffee etc will be served after the service.

  Mike Crouch with Livingstone Chenge from Butonge School   On Sunday the 28th September 2014 St John the Baptist Quinton held its Harvest Service and Supper in the Church. The Church was resplendent with harvest decoration, produce and flowers and the day was made more special with the arrival of our guest of honour (photo: greeted at the door by Mike Crouch, Churchwarden) Livingstone Chenge. Livingstone is the Headteacher of Butonge Primary School, the school we support, and is in the UK with the group from our linked diocese of Bungoma. During the service Livingstone gave us an insight into life in Bungoma and especially of the children at the school.  He explained the fantastic difference it had made when we financially assisted him to bring electricity into the school and how that would now assist our next project of improving the water and sanitation. Remembering the outbreak of WW1 O n 4 th August St John the Baptist Church, Quinton was open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m for quiet reflection to commemorate the anniversary of the commencement of the Great War, 1914 – 1919.   During the day appropriate prayers were offered and there were readings of poetry from the period. Visitors lit personal candles and signed a Book of Remembrance. There were displays of the histories of the men from Quinton and Preston Deanery, especially of those who did not return, and the men from Hackleton, Horton and Piddington were also remembered: RIP.  Family and personal memorabilia from many families in Quinton and Piddington was on display including a history of Quinton School at the time and the work of Army Chaplains through the War. We would like to thank everyone who donated memorabilia and came to join us in remembrance – “LEST WE FORGET” Mike Crouch

As a benefice we will be holding two events to mark the outbreak of the First World War, please come along to one of the one or both to commemorate and reflect on all those lost lives and devastated families. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.                                                      Laurence Binyon

Well done to Julie Austin who has been nominated for a Diocesan Children's award for her work with Quinton Explorers and the way that she connects it to the All Age services at St John the Baptist Quinton, as well as for the contribution she is making to the new Toddler Praise! service in Hardingstone. This is a real tribute to her very good work. She'll have the chance to talk about her work at Starburst, the diocesan Children's resource day, on May 10th, when the award winner will be announced.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to worship and see inside this lovely church that served the parishioners of Preston Deanery until 1904. We are fortunate that local people in pastimes in our benefice blessed us with so many wonderful churches

Come and join us on our safari service on June 23rd which is being held at both our St John the Baptist churches in honour of our Patronal Saint of Piddington and Quinton churches. We will be strolling through the plains between Quinton and Piddington, just watch out for those elephants!

New Courses Reverend Beverley will be running two courses in June, one on Leading and Writing Intercessions and Leading the Service of the Word and All Age Worship, please let Revd. Beverley know if you wish to come along.  

  Woodland Worship Members of St John the Baptist, Quinton and St John the Baptist Piddington with Horton, joined together for a simple, but beautiful woodland worship yesterday to mark Pentecost. It was truly inspirational to come together in fellowship and worship God surrounded by the wonderful setting of Rookery Wood.  Our thanks to all those who made this possible. SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT There will be no 10.00am Eucharistic Service at Piddington on Sunday 19th August as we have been unable to find a priest to conduct the service. Instead we have been invited by Quinton PCC to join them at their Eucharist Service at 9.30 at Quinton Church. There will also be no 10.00am Family Service at Piddington on Sunday 26th August , due to so many people being on holiday. All other services in the Benefice will run as usual.
