Message from Rev Julie Scott

Image
Below follows a short introductory message from our newly appointed priest Rev. Julie Scott. Hello, it is with great joy that I can introduce myself as your new Vicar. My name is Revd Julie Scott and with my husband Adrian we are looking forward to joining and serving the community. We currently live in Bridgwater Somerset where I have served part of my curacy. The southwest has been home for a number of years, however I recognised that I wanted to discover and minister to a new area, as well as a being a little closer to our family. We have one daughter and two grandchildren who live in Lincolnshire, and I am blessed to have my father who still lives in Surrey where I grew up. Adrian and I are both passionate about the environment and will always look for the ways we can protect and enjoy the world around us. One of the ways I do this is through the arts, I have a love of painting and photography, as well as having a background in design which I bring to all aspects of my life. ...

We look forward to welcoming Julie to Living Brook Benefice and St Mary’s in the not too distant future.  Letter of appointment

Invitation from Archbishops to pray for the pandemic

Image
The Archbishops of Canterbury and York are inviting the nation to join them in prayer every evening  at 6pm  - from today.   Archbishops Justin Welby and Stephen Cottrell are encouraging people of all backgrounds to set aside time each day for prayer – if possible stopping wherever they are  at 6pm  each evening.   It follows their call last week for people to pause, ‘reflect on the enormity of this pandemic’ and pray for the nation and all those affected.   The call followed news that that more than 100,000 people have died within 28 days of a positive Covid-19 test.   This evening  Archbishop Justin will lead a prayer session on Facebook Live  from 6pm (GMT)  on his  Facebook page .   He is encouraging people to post prayer requests in the comments section and he will pray with them.   In a letter to the nation last week, the Archbishops wrote: "We encourage everyone who is feeling scared, or lost or isolated...

Thought for the week

Image
Thought for the week This week's Thought is on the theme of Candlemas ( Feb 2nd ), and includes the story of the presentation of Jesus at the temple.

Thought for the week

Image
Thought for the week This week's Thought for the Week takes advantage of the snow to explore the theme of 'protecting'. Not surprisingly, this thought for the week highlights the things we need to keep doing to protect ourselves and others from coronavirus, and the story is of Jonathan acting to protect his friend David when Saul threatens him.

This week is an assembly on the theme of talents. I've chosen to emphasise the need for practice, not just to rely on being 'good at' something.
